Lifestyle | The rise of the reusable coffee cup x KeepCup

Honestly I'll hold my hands up and say I haven't always been the best when it comes to recycling etc and I didn't use to think twice about saying yes to a plastic bag, using multiple plastic straws in my drink or chucking away a takeaway coffee cup, however, recently I've taken a lot more interest in doing my bit to help the planet and also save me a few pennies in the long run!

There are many options when it comes to which reusable cup to buy, Starbucks sell one for a mere £1 and Costa sell a very similar design but with their branding for £3, however, they are both known to leak. An interesting brand to consider is Pokito (£12.50) as their cup folds down when you're not using it, making it a great lightweight and practical vessel to carry in your bag/pocket. Although if you're fussy like me and loathe drinking out of plastic bottles etc as it changes the taste of the drink,  then you should definitely try out KeepCups glass reusable cups!

KeepCup's was invented in Australia by siblings and owners of a coffee shop, as their business grew they became more aware of the amount of plastic waste they and their customers created, so the reusable cup was their answer! The KeepCup is the world's first barista-standard reusable cup as it fits under coffee machines, making it easy to hand over in coffee shops and to make your own coffee at home. Most of their designs are dish washer safe (on the top shelf) and all of the parts can be taken off so it can be cleaned thoroughly. It's completely recyclable at the end of it's life and all the parts can be bought again separately, so if you just wanted a new lid you don't need to be forced into buying an entire new cup. It's made from tough soda lime glass which isn't unbreakable but it's incredibly durable and it's BPA- Free and BPS- Free plastic.

I went for their Brew Reusable Glass Cup which was £15 from John Lewis.

They also sell 'The Original' which is made from Polyproylene, 'The Adventurer' which is made from Tritan, 'The Purist' made from Soda Lime Glass, 'The Naturalist' which is made from Soda Lime Glass and has a biodegradable cork band and needs to be hand washed, 'The LongPlay' which is made from Tritan and keeps drinks hot or cold for longer. You can turn the Brew cup, which I have, into a LongPlay by buying their booster and band separately. 

Size wise they currently offer 5 options; (I chose the 340ml (12oz)

120ml - Espresso (shot size)

180ml - Great for a stronger coffee with less milk

240ml - Very small Takeaway coffee size

340ml - Most common takeaway coffee size and similar to using a large mug

440ml - Large!

I definitely recommend this cup, I pop the lid off and just hand over the cup in a cafe, or I make a hot drink at home and take it with me for my commute. I rinse it out after use and then wash it properly once home. It isn't the lightest option for carrying around and sometimes it's not practical if you're using a small Summer bag but I do try and take it everywhere with me, even if it means having to carry a tote bag too.

Lifestyle | What I've been reading and watching recently #1

I've had a crazy amount of days off of work at the moment as I work part time so I've been trying to use my time off wisely by reading as much as I can, ticking off lots on my 'need to watch' list and getting some interesting blog posts scheduled (as well as having some nice days out). So I thought I'd share what I've been reading and watching recently!

The Fashion Fund (Netflix) The process of finding a fashion designer to win the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. The Fashion Fund was established in 2003 to cultivate the next generation of Fashion Designers by nurturing and mentoring them personally and financially. I am addicted to this show, I love having an insight into each stage of the competition, particularly the application and having a look at the designers portfolios. 

The Handmaid's Tale (4oD) Based on Margaret Atwood's novel of the same name. The show is set in Gilead, USA, in a desperate attempt to repopulate the world they round up all of the fertile women and force them to have children with the high up men (commanders) in society. It's a scary look into what could happen in the future if women were treated as property of the government.

I Own Australia's Best Home (Netflix) A look into some fantastic homes in Australia as they compete to become the best home in Australia and win money for charity. It's just a really fab show to put on in the background and it's also a lot of fun to have a nosy into peoples homes.

Pose (FX) A drama set in the 80's showing the ball culture and the downtown social scene. Blanca creates a house where she provides support and accommodation to young people in the LGBT society who have been rejected by their biological families and forced to become homeless. Together they compete in balls against their rival houses.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman Eleanor has learnt how to survive and go through the daily chores life brings but she is yet to learn how to live. This is a moving tale of loneliness and trauma and the affects it can have on your life.

The F Word by Lily Pebbles A lovely easy read looking at Lily's experiences with friendships. It's really well written and shares the perfect amount of personal stories and advice. It was interesting to see the different types of friends there are and thinking about which categories my friends and I fit into!

Everything I know about Love by Dolly Alderton This book keeps popping up on my Instagram feed and it was chosen by my Book Club as Junes book, so I had high hopes. Unfortunately I really didn't enjoy it, I found the writing style stilted and I don't know if it's because I don't know who the author is so I didn't invest in her stories or because a lot of the stories were set were I grew up so I kept getting distracted! My friend who also just finished reading this also said she wouldn't recommend it.

Social Media For Fashion Marketing by Wendy K. Bendoni This is a textbook using case studies and detailed interviews to show how the Fashion Industry is evolving in a digital world. I have a huge interest in Digital Marketing and I find the entire process of brands having to adapt to an online world fascinating. Companies are having to entice a generation that is used to having everything as soon as they want it and when they've found what they want they also want it to be instagrammable. One of my favourite case studies shares Marc Jacobs 'Tweet Shop' where the social currency of getting that tweet/share/like can actually be more beneficial than £/$ etc. When customers went to their pop up shop for their Daisy perfume they could 'pay' for their perfume by posting on social using their chosen hashtag, ultimately creating a bond between the brand and their new generation of customers. It's just brilliant!

Lifestyle | Blogging Essentials & Must have Apps

I've been blogging for around 6 years and It's a hobby of mine that I've always loved! When I was younger I'd cut up a mix of magazines and then create my own from it, adding in quizzes, my thoughts on trends and makeup and having my own blog allows me to do just that but share it with all of you! So today I am going to share with you what my blogging essentials are!

The necessities are definitely having a camera, smart phone and a laptop. Even though everything to do with your blog is online I highly recommend getting yourself a notebook and pen to be able to write down your blog schedule, blog post ideas, blogs you're enjoying and want to make sure you keep up to date with and make notes about future blog posts.

Apps You Need Now

There are a number of Apps I have and you'd love too! So of course I have all my social accounts on my phone, for my blog I use Instagram LINK and Twitter LINK. I also then have Social Accounts I use for personal use eg Wattsap, Facebook, Facebook Chat, Google Hangouts and Linkedin. Then I have Pinterest which I'm happy if people follow and take inspiration from my boards but I don't try and increase my following on there as I genuinely use it for inspiration.  

When it comes to Instagram I take that quite seriously and I have a few apps to help me create the best images as possible. First up I have Whitagram which is a fab editing app, you can add frames, filters and edit everything! Next up I have Feature which I use to create my Instagram Stories so I can create an editorial layout. Finally I use Planoly which is the most amazing app as you can add your Instagram pictures and see what the grid will look like before you post it for everyone to see, you can also schedule posts from this app. 

I use Twittimer on my Laptop to schedule Tweets, I think Twitter is the most organic of the social platforms so I only schedule tweets to advertise posts I've written on my blog, otherwise I use it to connect with other bloggers and just have a casual online chin wag in real time!

I'm sure the blogging essentials went without saying but I hope I've introduced you to some new apps which make your social platforms more creative and exciting to use!

Lifestyle | Bathroom Tour

I love a little look into peoples homes (by which I mean online and when I've been invited into someone's home!) and one post that I keep coming across is seeing inside bathrooms, so I thought I'd add my bathroom to the blog-asphere! I am currently living in rented accommodation so I haven't designed the bathroom per-say but I have added my own decorative things and it's a great chance to show you some products I've been using recently too!

Lifestyle | What's inside my Ralph Lauren handbag

We're going old school today and looking at what's inside my bag, I swap the handbag I use depending on my outfit and what my day holds, so I may do this post again for a different bag!

My bag of choice at the moment has been my Ralph Lauren leather brown shopper style handbag, you would have seen this before in my 'What I got for my 23rd Birthday' post. I'd say it's a medium sized handbag, it's the perfect shape for cramming in tons of stuff and it's smart enough for a bag to take to the office but also cool enough as just a bag for going to town for the day. It has one front pocket which I normally use for my oyster card or tissues and then inside it has the secret zip compartment which, like most ladies probably do, I use for pads! Then the rest of the bag does up with a zip. The handles are a great size for being able to pop the bag on my shoulder and then be able to securely keep it under my arm.

Here's what's been inside my bag for the past couple of days, my makeup bag which is actually a pencil case from Paperchase, Kipling purse, phone, Kipling oyster card holder, Glossier lipstick in Cake, tissues, headphones and Cosmo magazine! As you can see I don't tend to carry too much around with me as I don't enjoy carrying a heavy bag but I have to say even with this amount of stuff the bag is quite heavy to carry.

Inside my makeup bag I keep a powder, Glossier balm, Kiehl's hand cream, anti-bac hand gel, hayfever nose spray, hair band and a little body spray.

I thought I'd stick with the post I did for Mother's Day which you can read HERE and do one all about the things my dad's taught me so far!

Love your work as you'll have to do it everyday for the rest of your life

Work hard in any job you're given and act for the role you want to be in

Network, network, network

Save your money and live within your income

When you're about to make a purchase calculate it by how many hours of work it took to be able to afford it, do you still want it after?

Don't buy nice drinks and puddings, save up and buy holidays instead!

There's always enough room when it comes to packing

Be factual and don't let your emotions take over when dealing with issues

Be practical when it comes to problem solving

Always lock your windows and turn your straighteners off!

Always make sure the light switch is off before changing a light bulb

Always write subject lines on your emails so they don't get forgotten and so others can file them

Don't buy the snacks in the cinema, they've been there for ages and are overpriced

Don't use blue tack to stick things on walls

Don't paint things leaning on the carpet!

Be kind but firm

Take pride in myself and my work and don't do anything half-hearted

Don't chuck away craft bits, they're always needed later down the line.

When you own a car clean it regularly and don't let people eat inside it.

Always carry an emergency ibuprofen - your future headache will thank you for it!

Those are just 20 life lessons my dad's taught me so far! I hope some of them will inspire you too!

Lifestyle | 5 podcasts every 20-something must listen to

Everyone who knows me even a little bit will know I love a YouTube session, there's just nothing better than being able to escape from your life for a bit and see what other people are up to! Well my friends, I have a new thing which will not only save you the eye strain but it's also a lot more practical for your commute to work and that's podcasts! I have been aware of podcasts for a while and I've dabbled in a few here and there but recently I've become obsessed, I have a list longer than my arm of downloaded episodes to listen to and any time I know I'll have a little bit of time to myself I make sure I've packed my headphones so I can try and hear an episode! 

I thought it would be handy to share my favourite podcasts and some of my must hear episodes so you too can make your commute a thrilling part of your day, it also means I can do my second favourite thing which is talking about podcasts!

The Fringe of it

Liv Purivs (What Olivia Did), Charlotte Jacklin (Betty) discuss how their week has gone, firstly focusing on their telly and shopping habits and then they discuss one topic in more detail. Liv Purvis has the most relaxing and calming voice and I could literally listen to her talk about anything and everything! I am a huge fan of her blog and personal style and she speaks a lot of sense! I hadn't heard of  Charlotte Jacklin before but the two work really well together and I enjoy listening to them chat! Ctrl Alt Delete

Emma Gannon interviews inspirational people about an array of topics from mental health to careers. She is great at interviewing and all the conversations seem very relaxed and easy to listen to. At home with Lily Pebbles and Anna Newton

Lily and Anna tour through homes to find out more about people lives, I watch both of these girls Youtube channels and they come across just as well on their podcast. Episodes to listen to asap; 1. Jo Elvin (Glamour magazine editor) & 2. Zoe Sugg (Youtuber). They are currently recording series two, yah!

Happy Place

Fearne Cotton talks to people about life, love, loss and reveals what happiness means to them. This podcast is probably the most structured podcast that I listen to and is more reminiscent of a radio show, there are a lot of well known and interesting people being interviewed and they make for lovely listening whilst getting on with odd jobs. The only thing which is a slight downer is that Fearne Cotton says 'mmmmmm' a lot to encourage her guests anecdotes but it becomes rather annoying as a listener! Episodes to listen to asap; Gok Wan & Stephen Fry.

The Debrief Podcast (Now re-started and called Nobody Panic)

Stevie Martin and Tessa Coates give all the adulting advice by tackling life's big, small, fun and scary questions. The two are obviously close friends and they bounce off each other making even the most serious conversations fun, I have genuinely laughed out loud on the train listening to their anecdotes. I've even got Tom listening to some of these! As I only found this recently I am catching on all of their Debrief podcast but they have now started a new podcast called Nobody Panic. Episodes to listen to asap; How to nail your work placement/internship, How to meet new people when you're so lonely, How to be more assertive, How to network and so many more!

So there we are that's my list of what I'm loving listening to recently, they may not be the most educational podcasts but I genuinely feel like I learn so many random facts, have lots of interesting conversation starters and the actual act of listening to the podcasts makes me feel calm and relaxed.

LIFESTYLE | What I got for my 23rd Birthday

It was my 23rd birthday on Saturday 26th May and I couldn't possible have a birthday without writing a 'what I got for my birthday' post could I ?! So here are some of the amazing gifts which I was very grateful to have received this year.

I was very lucky with all the beauty items I was gifted this year, I am really pleased to have gotten another Urban Decay De-Slick primer and IT Cosmetics CC cream as these are two things which I use daily and I've nearly finished! I also got two testers of IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye concealer which I really wanted to try but wasn't sure which colour to choose. I got a lovely matte peachy pink Sephora lipstick and finally Mario Badescu Acne Facial Cleanser and Drying Cream which I've read so many good things about so I hoping for sparkling clear skin!

I love Slush Puppies so I am very happy to now be the proud owner of a slush puppie cup, you just have to leave it in the freezer for up to 24 hours and then you add the syrup and stir and it turns into a Slush Puppie!! I got bought this lovely mug from Tiger which is giving me all of the Anthropologie vibes and some of my favourite candy!

These 's' and 'e' ornaments are so lovely and fulfill all my glitter dreams! I also got bought this really lovely melting Ice-Cream jewelry dish from Anthropologie which  makes a beautiful ornament. I love the Avocado post it notes and Avocado and Cacti magnetic bookmarks from Stradivarius which are a Millennial gift summed up and finally I am always very happy to receive Instax film!

I love love love the straw bag trend going on at the moment and remembered my mum/grandma owning one when I was young so I asked if I could have theirs! It turns out they had both gotten rid of them but my Grandma remembered and bought me this one from Urban Outfitters. I absolutely love it, it's completely lined and can carry quite a lot, the only thing is you can't adjust the strap so it is quite a long bag. I've used it everyday since my birthday as it just goes with every outfit.

I also received this beautiful Ralph Lauren handbag which I just love, it has a city working vibe to it and makes a lovely smart bag. I love the pocket at the front for my oyster card and I think the gold logo just looks rather wonderful. This can fit lots and is also quite light to start with which is very handy.

I was bought a pair of high waist denim shorts from Jack Wills and this soft casual zip up bomber jacket from Jack Wills, I really love both of them and they'll be perfect for my upcoming cruise in September.

My friend bought me the lovely print of Cacti from thelovelydrawer which looks great in my room!

Last but not least I got two books for my birthday and they were two books I realllyyyy wanted! The first is 'Social Media For Fashion Marketing' by Wendy K.Bendoni which is a textbook and 'Surprise Me' by Sophie Kinsella which I've wanted to buy since Kinsella started advertising that it was going to be released.

So there we are, there's some of the amazing gifts I got for my birthday! As you can see I was utterly spoilt by all my friends and family and I am incredibly grateful for all the thought and time that went into getting me my gifts.

I celebrated my birthday by going to Flight Club and playing social darts the weekend before with my friends, which I highly recommend. Then on my actual birthday I spent the day with my parents and boyfriend mooching about  Camden market and then going for a very delicious dinner at The Ivy Cafe.

LIFESTYLE | 5 steps to a stress free interview

Applying for a job isn't easy, you've spent ages writing your CV, perfecting your Linkdin and then days upon days scrolling through the internet followed by hours of applications. After what seems like years you've finally been invited to a job interview, so now it's time to start prepping and here's my advise.

Plan the Journey

The number one thing to do after being called for an interview is to check the journey! Make sure you know where you're meeting and that you can get there for the correct time.

Research the Company

This may sound like an obvious one but it's a good idea to research the company that you're applying for. You probably know a bit anyway as you obviously have an interest in them to have applied, but it never hurts to have a quick scroll through their website and see if there's anything important about them in the news recently. I don't think it's a good idea to learn their history off by heart as that will come across far to rehearsed and even a tad creepy!

Dress to impress

I am a great believer that your outfit can make or break your chances of gaining a job. This doesn't mean that you need to go out and buy a new outfit or be in this seasons clothes, but you need to dress professionally and look clean and tidy. Always dress for the fact you're going to an interview, it doesn't matter if this place of work allows jeans, you don't work there yet and you should dress smartly. I like to wear something I am comfortable in but also makes me memorable, I usually do this by adding a pop of colour with a shoe or a top. I'd also recommend carrying as little as possible so you're not balancing tons of things and trying to shake the interviewers hand.  

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail!

To an extent you can guess some of the questions which will be asked, check out this list of 10 most common interview questions HERE. You can have a think what your answers will be and have a few key words ready, I recommend that you DON'T rehearse your entire answers as it will be very obvious and you'll come across much more relaxed to reply in a chatty manner. One last thing, silence isn't a bad thing, if you get a question you weren't expecting just take a moment to think about your answer and then talk when you're ready to!

Think of some questions

Have a think before you go if there are any questions you'd want to ask, it's okay to have these jotted down. A few questions I like to know about companies when applying to work there are, how do they enjoy working there?, what will my hours be like? and is there progression within the company? 

So there are all my interview preparation tips! I hope you find them helpful and that they'll make your interview a stress free occasion!

Lifestyle | How to wrap a wedding gift beautifully

This April I am off to a wedding and I haven't been to one since I was a child (and was a bridesmaid), so I am rather excited! I also love any excuse to go gift shopping and then spend a relaxing afternoon wrapping the gifts. So I thought I'd share with you how I decided to wrap this wedding gift and hopefully it shall give you some creative ideas! 

Before we get to the wrapping stage think of the shape of your gift, if it's a strange shape then perhaps pop it into a gift box so it's easier to wrap.

Of course the wrapping paper is the main part of the wrapping process and I went for this fun 'bring out the prosecco' paper from Paperchase. For better quality paper choose a sheet instead of buying a roll as they tend to look and feel more luxurious.

A ribbon is vital around every gift! I chose this white one with a gold trim as it's very bridal. This ribbon was in a pack of three from Paperchase Christmas range.

It's time to add some shine and this year I've been loving using present toppers. It's definitely a pricier way of wrapping a gift, so think if the person you're giving it to is either the sentimental kind that will keep all the little knick-kacks or the kind who will rip it open and chuck it all away! I used these disco balls from, yes you guessed it, Paperchase and a little silver glitter bell from Sainsburys. 

I then slipped a little postcard underneath the ribbon which has a gorgeous vintage print of a boy and girl and I wrote the couples names underneath. This postcard again was a Paperchase find, they have a huge variety to choose from and are a cute way to make your gift look that little bit more special. If you're also not wanting to write a card you could actually use it as a postcard and write a short message on it.

I am assuming they'll be a lot of gifts given so just in case the card gets removed from the gift I've added a tiny luggage tag saying who got it!

There we are, that's the gift all wrapped up, with the amount of ribbon and decorations it will take awhile for them to actually get to see what's inside! I also popped it inside a gift bag (which you can see in the first photograph) from Sainsburys and I've got a lovely card from Oliver Bonas.

Lifestyle | Case Station Avocado print phone Case*

Case Station very kindly offered me the opportunity to design my own phone case and I jumped at the chance! I have a rose gold Iphone SE and I love to change it up by swapping the phone case to match my outfit or the occasion.  When choosing to create your case the first decision is whether you want a normal snap on case, which is slim and light, a tough case which has a dual layer for extra protection, or finally a wallet style so you can store your cards etc. I decided to design a tough case as I wanted to make it practical for holidays, when you're taking your phone out constantly to take pictures and are more likely to drop it! As you can see the case completely covers the sides of the phone and there is a rim around the screen. Next you can decide if you want a matte or glossy finish.

Then it comes to the fun part of designing it! You can have one image covering the entire case or you can choose to create a layout and add multiple pictures. It's really easy to upload images from your Laptop, Instagram, Facebook or Dropbox and if you're struggling for ideas they also have a huge choice of their own artwork to choose from.

I spent ages thinking of different ideas and I designed quite a few before deciding to simplify it and choose a quirky image from pinterest HERE.

Lifestyle | Disneyland Paris x Disney & Sephora Haul

There was no way I could go to Disneyland Paris and come away empty handed, it would have been plain rude, and I've been brought up to have good manners! So here is what I bought in Disney and let me tell you I was really restrained as there were quite a few plushies which I'd have liked to have given a home too!

The first purchase was lanyards as we wanted somewhere to put our pins and the plastic wallet was ideal for our park tickets, hotel room key and our tickets for breakfast etc. We shall be keeping these for future trips!

My big purchase was this lovely grey sweatshirt, I've seen this a lot online and was hoping to find it! It's only in the mens and starts in a small so it is slightly oversized, it was in plenty of shops though so it was easy to find!

I already have a few pins and wanted to add to my collection so I bought myself the 2018 one to remember out holiday. Tom got me the little  French Minnie and I bought Tom Mickey Mouse and I bought my brother a pin of the castle!

Tom bought these two Disney glasses, which strangely match glasses we have but have the addition of Mickey Mouse! I got the cup in the middle from a mocktail and it lights up, what more could I want!?

We got given these cowboy hats at the Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, depending on where you were seated the colour changed.

Of course we had to buy ears, they're just so cute! They had a good selection of ears to choose from including princess ones, sequin ears and bride ones. We both went for classic ears as we knew we wouldn't get bored of them!

Food wise I bought Disney pasta for us and my grandparents, some chewy Disney sweets to take to work and then we got tons of these little dark chocolate slabs for free at out hotel! 

We also kept the little toiletries which are beyond cute and I'll be able to refill them with my own products for future holidays! Then I also kept the light up cube which was in my cocktail!

We spent a couple of hours at a shopping centre close by to the Disney Parks (10 min taxi journey) for the main purpose of going to the supermarket and going to Sephora! I absolutely love that shop and was so excited to check it out and damage was done. I picked up a face mask and two eye masks as I've been bought these before as a gift and absolutely loved them! I feel like they won't be used for awhile as I'll be sad once I don't have anymore! I then bought a small Nars creamy concealer as I've only seen good reviews about it! Then finally I bought a Becca highlighter because this stuff is crazily amazing and as it is that little bit more pricey I would never buy it for myself at home!
