Novembers issue of 'DAZED' features Iris Apfel, 91, as the cover girl, 'in a culture that fetishises youth, Apfel has become an unlikely idol, inspiring younger generations with an immutable confidence and a witty, more-is-more style.' Apfel has been an icon since 2005 when the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC held an exhibition which showed her flamboyant clothes. This was the Met Museum first exhibition about a living women who wasn't an artist. Apfel then went on to be photographed for Italian Vogue by Bruce Weber and then braced the pages of almost every magazine! Apfel makes it clear that she doesn't take fashion too gravely and finds it 'hysterical' and preaches 'fashion shouldn't be taken so seriously. It's something you should adapt to your mood and spirit.'
When questioned about how she has the confidence to dress how she does she confidently replied 'I was never hurt by what anybody said about my clothes, because my feeling has always been to dress to please myself. If somebody doesn't like what I am wearing, it's their problem, not mine!
