If you're anything like me you love to get a bargain, why wouldn't you want to get more for your money, so a shop I regularly have a mooch about is TKMaxx and today on People Who Do Things we are joined with Polly who's been a sales associate at said store for 4 years....
So you work as a sales associate at TKMaxx I'm sure like myself you're a big fan of the shop and enjoy getting a bargain! Do you get to have first pickings when it comes to new stock arriving? Yes, when I'm emptying delivery I can put any items I want aside to buy later.
Oh wow! You must end up putting most of your wages back into the company! I try to stop myself but yes it can be so hard haha
What does your day to day life look like? Each day can be different but I normally work on the fitting rooms and concentrate on thieving in the fitting rooms and the store, as this happens a lot and I've even caught a few. I am also on the tills a lot, they can get really busy and stressful.
I also work in retail and although some days are a breeze I know how tiring it can be standing on your feet all day and having to deal with the odd difficult customer. Do you find you get a lot of customers trying to haggle the prices further? Yes!!!! They'll normally try and say something's damaged but when I check the product it isn't!
What's the best discounted designer product you've sold or seen in store? We have a beautiful blue cross over Valentino bag in at the moment but even after being heavily discounted it is still £300, oo and we also have some lovely LuLu bags in too.
The bags and shoes always get me too! If you weren't working as a sales associate what would you be doing? That's the question! I have no idea what I want to do yet, I did go to University but I took the decision to leave at the end of year 2 due to personal reasons, so I haven't decided yet.
Have you got any tips on the best time of day to shop to see the new in products before anyone else? We get delivery 3 to 4 times a week around 10am but we never know what we will be getting, so your best bet is to pop into store as soon as it opens.
Do you recommend working for TKMaxx as a sales associate and do you have any tips for the interview process? Yes, it's a great place to work, when I went for my interview the employer was really impressed with all the facts that I knew about the business, so definitely do your research into the company before attending your interview!
Okay, the question we all want to know the answer of, what are the perks of the job?! We get an extra 10% off and occasional 20% off for friends and families events. The managers have all been lovely and make sorting your shifts and booking holidays easy and I even got a bonus recently!
A massive thank you to Polly for taking the time to share her job as a Sales Associate, I hope you found this interesting and keep tuned for a lot more interviews, I shall be posting a new 'people who do things' every other Sunday, So your next one will be up on Sunday 9th September.
